About Charnock Road ES
We are a Proud Community School
An urban school located in the Palms neighborhood of West Los Angeles, Charnock Road Elementary School continues to develop lifelong learners, problem solvers, and responsible citizens.The hallmarks of our instructional program is based on rigorous instruction, differentiation, the infusion of the arts throughout the curriculum, and a multi-tiered system of intervention. Charnock is committed to become an educational institution where parents are equal partners in the education of their children; and community entities, such as governmental agencies, businesses, and universities are active participants in developing an integrated system of support for our students.
What is a Community School?
A community school has four “pillars”:
1) integrated student supports, such as health care, behavioral health, and dental services;
2) expanded and enriched learning time and opportunities, including lengthening the school day/year, offering after-school and summer programs and/or broadening the curriculum to include enrichment and community-based learning;
3) family and community engagement; and
4) collaborative leadership and practices, such as shared goal setting and decision making, among students, families, teachers, school staff, school/district administrators, and staff from community-based partner organizations.
These four pillars reinforce each other. Together, they ensure that students are engaged and that everyone in the school community feels welcome and supported. They also promote a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration between teachers and administrators and among all school staff, parents, and the broader community.
What makes the community schools strategy particularly effective is the integration of these four pillars; the customization of services, supports, and practices based on the unique assets, needs, and collective vision of each school community; and a focus on advancing shared goals for student learning and success.

The mission of Charnock Road is to develop lifelong scholars who are curious, persistent and tenacious problem solvers. Charnock alumni are independent and collaborative learners able to critically evaluate and monitor their own knowledge. Our pupils are able to effectively critique information and present/defend their position with facts. Charnock alumni are global citizens who have a strong moral framework and view themselves as change agents within their own communities. Charnock Road is an institution where educators' instructional practices are aligned with proven research.
Vision
Our vision is to create a learning environment that is based on students' construction of their own knowledge. Students will engage in real life problem solving and have access to the global learning community through the use of technology. Our learning environment will provide for differentiation, the infusion of the arts throughout the curriculum and multi-tiered intervention. Charnock strives to be an educational institution where parents are equal partners in the education of their children and our local business community and universities is actively involved.
